Coverage for your weekends
Whether you spend summer weekends on Pleasant Creek Lake or Coralville Lake, take the camper across the state, or ride the back roads of Linn County, your recreational vehicles deserve real protection. Your home and auto policies usually offer little or no coverage for them, so a dedicated policy is the way to protect both the vehicle and your liability.

Coverage options to ask about
- Liability: Protection if you injure someone or damage their property, on land or water.
- Physical damage: Collision and comprehensive coverage for accidents, theft, fire, hail and vandalism.
- Agreed value: For newer or high-value boats and RVs, a set payout amount agreed up front.
- Accessories and gear: Fishing equipment, electronics, custom parts and riding gear.
- Towing and roadside: On-water towing for boats and roadside help for RVs and motorcycles.
- Uninsured boater / motorist: Protection when the other party can’t pay.
Bundle your toys. Many insurance companies offer a discount when your recreational vehicles are on the same account as your auto and home policies, and an umbrella policy can extend your liability protection across all of them.

Recreational insurance questions
Doesn’t my homeowners policy cover my boat or ATV?
Usually only in a very limited way, if at all. Many homeowners policies cap coverage for boats and exclude liability once you’re on the water, and off-road vehicles are often excluded away from your property. A dedicated policy is the safer choice.
Do I need insurance on my motorcycle in Iowa?
Motorcycles ridden on public roads fall under Iowa’s financial responsibility law, the same as cars. Beyond the legal minimum, a motorcycle policy can cover your bike, custom parts and gear, and your medical bills after a crash.
Can I pause coverage in the off-season?
Many carriers offer lay-up or seasonal options that reduce premiums while a boat, motorcycle or snowmobile is stored, while still protecting it against theft, fire and storm damage. We’ll show you what’s available.
Does RV insurance cover my belongings inside?
Many RV policies can include coverage for personal belongings, and some offer full-timer coverage if you live in your RV. Coverage varies by company, so we’ll compare the options for you.
